Tropical Tea Zinger

Time for another round of tea drinks!

I don’t know why (maybe because they’re not that widespread yet?) but I love a good tea cocktail. Whether served cold or hot, I think they’re a fun, semi-healthy way to kick back and relax while enjoying a good drink. This Tropical Tea Zinger is perfect for summer, served cold over ice with the refreshing addition of spicy ginger beer and fresh orange juice.

I first ventured into the world of tea cocktails with this Pineapple Green Tea Martini, which I must say would also be a fantastic one to whip up this time of year when the weather is warm and tropical flavors sound like the best thing ever (and if you can actually drink booze right now!)

Then, during some of the colder months, I ventured into the boozy hot tea category with this Warming Ginger Tea Whiskey Cocktail and this Elder-Berry Tea Cocktail. I love both of these on cool fall or winter afternoons and evenings, which I might mention are just around the corner! [Side note: Has anyone else been seeing pumpkin slowly creeping back onto the scene already? On one hand it feels so soon to me but on the other I can’t wait for everything pumpkin season to arrive!]

This Tropical Tea Zinger is a perfect balance between the cold boozy tea martini and the hot toddy types that we need to shelve for another month or two. It’s cool and refreshing, yet does not contain any of the hard stuff. That being said, I certainly wouldn’t object if you wanted to perk it up a bit with some whiskey 😉

This Tropical Tea Zinger is a refreshing summer mocktail with plenty of spice!

My mom always has some homemade iced tea sitting in her refrigerator whenever I visit, and this time I was excited to find some decaf Lipton Tropical Iced Tea waiting in a huge pitcher. It’s been so refreshing to sip on during this warm weather, I immediately knew I wanted to use it to make this week’s mocktail!

While I love unsweetened iced tea, in order to make it mocktail-worthy I felt like it needed a little sweetness and spice. I turned to my good ol’ non-alcoholic friend, ginger beer, for some unexpected fizz and that gingery tang, and then added some fresh orange juice to sweeten the deal and give the tea a whole other dimension. Let’s just say I immediately fell in love, and I’m pretty sure you would, too.

A tall, refreshing glass of this Tropical Tea Zinger is just what you need on a warm summer's day!

Plus, it’s Friday, which means a Tropical Tea Zinger – whether you booze it up or not – is the perfect way to reward yourself after a long week and kick off a relaxing weekend. I know I’ll be kicking up my feet with a few of these at the ‘rents’ house. What exciting things will you be bringing these Zingers too this weekend??

Elder-Berry Tea Cocktail

Who’s ready for a tummy-warming treat?

Elder-Berry Tea Cocktail | CaliGirlCooking.com

I hope everyone is, because today I’m bringing you a warm, fruity libation that’s going to get you through the rest of these winter months. That’s right, this Elder-Berry Tea Cocktail is going to be the only thing you want to make while the weather is still well under 60 degrees in most parts of the world (and if you’re in a tropical locale, get thee to some good air conditioning and you’ll be just fine while sipping on this deliciousness.)

I’ve been meaning to bring you another tea cocktail for a while now (you may recall this Warming Ginger Tea Whiskey Cocktail I brought you last year, which was a huge hit) but I’ll have to admit the inspiration was slow-coming. But with all of the crazy weather we’ve been having in our neck of the woods (and all over the country, from what I’ve been seeing,) I didn’t want to put this off any longer. There’s nothing like a hot, alcohol-ridden beverage to get you feeling nice and cozy on a cold, rainy day!

In fact, I wish I’d had the ingredients for this Elder-Berry Tea Cocktail while we were down in Southern California this past weekend. We braved the pouring rain to make the long trek to Palm Springs on Friday night to visit Grandma, then drove to Santa Clarita for a baby shower on Saturday, then down to Ontario Saturday night for the brother-in-law’s girlfriend’s birthday, then over to Seal Beach (again in the pouring rain) on Sunday because the hubs had a meeting there all day Monday.

I was supposed to drop my man in Seal Beach and drive back to Santa Barbara on Sunday, but I decided to crash with him and wait out the storm. I’m so glad I did! It turned out to be a beautiful day to do some touristy things and I actually got a lot of work done without all of the usual distractions I have at home.

But, lesson learned, I will now be sure to have all ingredients for Elder-Berry Tea Cocktails on hand whenever I am on a road trip, especially with a weather forecast like that!

So this week I took the liberty of sorting through my tea stash in the pantry and all of the random alcohol we have on hand, and decided to see what I could make. I ended up coming across some Twining’s Blueberry & Apple tea and some random berry-flavored vodka.  Match made in heaven! I was also reminded that we had a beautiful bottle of elderflower liqueur just hanging around our liquor cabinet, and I thought it would be the perfect slightly floral, slightly sweet addition to the toasty concoction I was heating up. I was right.

This Elder-Berry Tea Cocktail comes together effortlessly once you have all of the ingredients gathered up. It’s also the most brilliant shade of red, and might just be the perfect drink for you to surprise your SO with on Valentine’s Day <3

If you can’t specifically find the Twinings Apple & Berry flavor of tea, any berry tea will do just fine. They do have a Twinings Wild Berries tea on Amazon which I think would be the perfect substitute in lieu of any other options.

We get this cocktail started by soaking our tea bags in the berry-flavored vodka and elderflower liqueur while our water is heating up. This gets the extraction started and makes sure the drink will not be watered down. Once the tea kettle has started whistling, simply pour the hot water over the booze-teabag mixture and allow to steep for at least 5 more minutes.

Voila! Your Elder-Berry Tea Cocktail is hot and ready to go. Now how’s that for a TGIF?

Warming Ginger Tea Whiskey Cocktail

It’s been another crazy week and this Warming Ginger Tea Whiskey Cocktail is just what I’m craving as Friday rolls around.

I got home late last night from a work trip to LA, the fiancé headed out on his Bachelor Party, and I’m getting the house ready to host my mom for the weekend. I’m really looking forward to having some one-on-one time with her, it’s pretty scarce these days. We have an auction to go to for my niece and nephew’s school, and I have my first dress fitting on Saturday! This –ish is getting real.

What are everyone else’s plans for the weekend? Got any fun adventures planned? Dining experiences? Tell me everything, I love living hearing what you’re up to! Hopefully you’re making time for some delicious food and drink, because isn’t that what weekends are all about?

This Warming Ginger Tea Whiskey Cocktail is an equally perfect little tipple for both a lazy day at home on the couch or as a way to wind down after a day of adventure-ing. We all know how calming a cup of hot tea is and, if we’re all on the same page here, whiskey is the perfect nightcap. Combine both of these with a healthy dose of ginger to soothe the tummy (both from the tea and from a splash of ginger beer), a touch of honey and I’m pretty sure you’re going to have an AMAZING night’s sleep after you sip on one of these bad boys.

And really, these are all the ingredients you need to make this delicious cocktail. I found the Ginger Pear White Tea at Trader Joe’s, but if you don’t have a TJ’s near you, any ginger-flavored tea should work just fine (or you could just order it off of Amazon using the link above, easy peasy!) We simply boil up our hot water and pour it over the honey, ginger beer and tea bag, letting it steep for 5 minutes or so (maybe more, maybe less, you choose how strong you want the tea flavor to be.) And of course we enjoy this right away, because it would be a shame to drink a cold Warming Ginger Tea Whiskey Cocktail, right?

If you’re looking for a fun weekend recipe or two, might I suggest these Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Dates or these Tahini Blondies with Whiskey Date Caramel & Sea Salt (both of which also happen to pair fabulously with a Warming Ginger Tea Whiskey Cocktail?)

Or, if you want to cool down instead of warm up this weekend (it is supposed to be in the high-70’s here in Santa Barbara), you might want to try your hand at these Blackberry Bourbon “Jammers”  or a You Go, Gin Coco.

No matter what you try, I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! I’m finally on Snapchat (user name: caligirlcooking) and I’ll do my best to keep you up to date on all my wekeend adventures ir you promise to do the same? I look forward to seeing everyone’s Snapisodes!! XO
