Citrus, Pomegranate and Cherry Kombucha Punch

It’s been far too long since I’ve brought out the ‘booch.

This Citrus, Pomegranate and Cherry Kombucha Punch is the perfect non-alcoholic batch drink to serve a crowd during the holidays.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still as in love with it as ever, but I was told by my OB that I should be careful about consuming kombucha while pregnant (which is slightly odd seeing as I have other friends whose docs told them it was good for them) but I just couldn’t help myself with this Citrus, Pomegranate and Cherry Kombucha Punch!

When you can’t consume alcohol, you’ve got to get creative with how you enjoy your festive beverages. As a die-hard bubbles lover, I’m the first to use a delicious sparkling wine as my punch base when I’m not pregnant (case in point: this Sparkling Pomegranate Party Punch I made last year) so naturally I was looking for something that would be a suitable substitute, at least for the next 5 weeks or so.

[Side note: I can’t believe we’re only five-ish weeks away from meeting our little girl!]

Because these days I seem to be getting “sugar headaches” if I consume too much overly sweetened juice, I wanted something that had minimal added sugar. I also wanted some bubbles – because we’ve got to keep things festive somehow! A citrus-y kombucha seemed just the answer.

Citrus, Pomegranate and Cherry Kombucha Punch is the perfect batch mocktail for the holiday season.

I decided to keep with the new season (hello, fall!) by using some of its star produce. While cherries may be on their way out, pomegranates are most certainly on their way in, as are all the citrus fruits. So into my base of citrus kombucha went equal parts pomegranate and cherry juices (which you can find at any Trader Joe’s) and then, to keep my Citrus, Pomegranate and Cherry Kombucha Punch not too basic, I added just a touch of orgeat to add a little extra dimension of flavor.

[Second side note: Orgeat has become a huge favorite mocktail ingredient for me and I highly recommend that you add some to your home bar arsenal ASAP.]

Once you have all the ingredients on hand, your Citrus, Pomegranate and Cherry Kombucha Punch will come together in a snap, which means it’s the perfect batch mocktail to whip up this weekend.

This festive punch is full of seasonal flavor and gets a non-alcoholic kick from citrus kombucha. The perfect drink for children and adults alike!

Ingredients
  • 4 ounces orange- or tangerine-flavored kombucha
  • 2 ounces pomegranate juice
  • 2 ounces cherry juice
  • 1/2 ounce orgeat
  • Thin orange wedge or wheels, for garnish
Instructions
  1. Fill a tallboy glass with ice.

  2. Add kombucha, pomegranate juice, cherry juice and orgeat and give a little stir.

  3. Garnish with orange wedges or wheels and enjoy!

I don’t know how it’s been where you live, but the weather here in Santa Barbara has been a bit funky as of late. About a week ago, we started seeing the socked in, foggy mornings that are typical for the month of June (hence the term “June gloom”) but it seems the gloom has arrived early this year in the form of “May gray.” Don’t get me wrong, I love these foggy mornings (I did grow up in Santa Cruz, after all), but I’m really hoping we get a little break soon since we do in fact have a pool party to attend this weekend and Memorial Day is only two weeks away!

Speaking of Memorial Day, what are everyone’s plans? Are you going anywhere or doing anything exciting? Our plans are still up in the air as of right now. It’s Chris’ 30th birthday and we’ll definitely be celebrating it in some way, but to be honest we haven’t really been able to get our act together and plan any big adventures since wedding planning has basically taken over our life 😛 I’m sure we’ll have fun, though, as we always do!

I can assure you that as soon as the fog lifts (or maybe even before then, if we’re feeling nostalgic) we’ll be making our fair share of these Lemon and Lavender Spiked Kombucha Floats. It’s no secret that I’m a HUGE fan of kombucha, especially TheBu’s delicious flavors. You’ve seen me turn them into some delicious cocktails like this Peachy Tangerine Kombucha Mimosa and this Tropical Rum Runner, but what you don’t see is me drinking them, like, every. single. day. in their pure form. Seriously, I love them so much. We’ve been trying to cut down a little on our alcohol intake the past few months in preparation for the wedding and, well, #life, and their kombucha is the perfect “cocktail” for me to enjoy and wind down after a busy day at work.

Buuuuuut, we all know that I’m all about that B-A-L-A-N-C-E so of course I have to indulge a little every now and then. And these Lemon and Lavender Spiked Kombucha Floats are just that indulgence. Now, I know that you know I’m all about TheBu, but if for some reason you can’t find TheBu in your area, you can either find it here on their website, or sub in YOUR own favorite kombucha. Basically any flavor that pairs well with lemon will substitute just fine.

These floats are suuuuuuper easy and suuuuuuuper tasty. Their creamy and refreshing, with a hit of tang from the limoncello and the kombucha.  I used the classic French Vanilla ice cream for these, but if you want to “health-ify” this recipe even more, feel free to sub in your favorite frozen yogurt or non-dairy ice cream. This recipe is so easy to make your own!

The only trouble you might run across is the meltability factor, but that’s easily remedied by popping each float into the freezer as you dish them out. That short stint in the ice box won’t make them freeze TOO much, and it will keep the floats from making a huge mess on you kitchen counters as the ice cream oozes over the top of the glass (unless you’re looking for an artsy photo that is – see my “artistic” attempts below.)

These Lemon and Lavender Spiked Kombucha Floats are ready in less than 10 minutes flat and thus the perfect treat for when you want to spend your whole day out by the pool and not in the kitchen. And if that melting thing becomes an issue as you’re enjoying your delicious treat outside? Well then, I think that gives you an excuse to hop in for a swim!

Lemon and Lavender Spiked Kombucha Floats
A tasty, refreshing ice cream float with a healthy hit of kombucha.
Ingredients
  • 4 large scoops of French Vanilla ice cream or your preferred substitute
  • 6 ounces limoncello
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 8 ounces TheBu Lavender Kombucha or your favorite kombucha
  • Dried culinary lavender optional; recommended more for looks than taste
Instructions
  1. Divide the above ingredients into two large glasses in the order listed above (ice cream first, then kombucha, then limoncello, then vodka, and finally kombucha.) I used my favorite milkshake glasses that came in this set on Amazon.
  2. If needed, place individual floats in freezer while making the other(s) so they don’t melt too much.
  3. Enjoy immediately for best results.

Is anyone else as ecstatic as I am? This week was a busy one with lots of visitors, and we’re turning right back around and heading up to the Bay Area for the weekend to celebrate Easter with our families (amongst other things.) I love being busy and seeing all of our close friends and families and I wouldn’t trade it for the world, but sometimes it’s hard to catch a breath! I know this is just the beginning, though. Our social butterfly life is only going to get more intense as we get closer and closer to the wedding. I can’t believe our Big Day is just over four months away! Eek!

I think the only logical way we’re going to make it through the foreseeable future is with mimosas. Lots and lots of mimosas. I love just about any kind of mimosa (or sparkling wine in general for that matter, as long as it’s not too sweet) but we’re really kicking it up a notch today with Peachy Tangerine Kombucha Mimosas!!!

That’s right folks. I mean, it’s only logical that, if we’re going to be consuming our fair share of the world’s favorite brunch drink (sorry Bloody Mary lovers, I just can’t hang with you), we should add some healthy, good-for-you kombucha for that extra jolt of energy and probiotic boost that will make these TOTALLY worth our while.

I know I’ve said it before, but I absolutely LOVE TheBu Kombucha(as I so clearly demonstrated in this Tropical Rum Runner.) Even better, it’s a local brand brewed practically in my own backyard.  I was itching to make some sort of Easter-themed mimosa to share with you all, so when I was enjoying myself a big frosty bottle of TheBu Tangerine Kombucha the other day, the light bulb went off in my head! Using TheBu also solves the problem of adding a little bit of fun flavor to our sparkling wine without making it overly sweet. It’s got just the right hint of tangerine, but still has the little fermented kick that you get with all kombuchas. Of course, I couldn’t leave it at that and had to dip into our ever-growing collection of flavored vodkas that the future hubs gets through work, just to add a little something else that really makes this drink scream “spring!” Belvedere Peach Vodka to the rescue!

Confession: I really wasn’t sure about this flavored vodka addition at first. To be honest, I had to be convinced. I thought the sparkling wine combined with the kombucha would need just a little touch of sweetness (from juice, a liqueur, etc.) to make this truly taste like a “mimosa,” but boy was I wrong! I’m so glad I listened to my better half and went for the flavored vodka. It adds JUST the right amount of peach flavor to this drink to give it more of a three-dimensional, floral, spring-like character. So much better than everything else I was trying to do with it. Peachy Tangerine Kombucha Mimosa
A refreshing twist on the classic Mimosa utilizing kombucha and peach-flavored vodka. The perfect drink for spring!
Ingredients
  • ½ ounce peach-flavored vodka I highly recommend Belvedere
  • 2 ounces chilled TheBu Kombucha Tangerine flavor
  • 4 ounces chilled sparkling wine our house favorite is Segura Viudas
Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients in the above order in a champagne flute. Serve immediately.
